Rush Spring 2011
I have been a member of Yale AEPi since my freshman year, and yet despite the countless times I’ve done this, rush never gets or old. Every semester, there’s a fresh new group of eager freshmen, sophomores, and yes, even some juniors interested in joining this fraternity. I have a routine, now. Amidst the ruckus of a rush event, I make a point of meeting and talking to every rush. Some are there because they’ve dreamt of being in AEPi all their lives. Others are there because they saw a flier and thought the event looked fun. Even more are there because they know someone in the fraternity who has been talking about it all semester. Each has a different story, but each is essentially there for the same reason; to have fun, get to know the brothers, and see if they have what it takes to join AEPi at Yale.
Being the Rush chair this semester has been a fitting cap to a great experience with AEPi. As I was once brought into this fraternity as a freshman, I have now had the opportunity to bring in the next class of gentlemen. Being more involved in the process has been immensely rewarding, and I have been incredibly happy to see eight great guys join the Omicron pledge class last week. It is almost sad, in a sense, that I will not be a brother with them for more than a couple weeks, as I graduate soon after they join the ranks of brotherhood. But I know that we’re leaving the fraternity in good hands as the underclassmen rise up to take leadership. I am excited to see what they’ll do with it. Each new class of pledges brings something unique to the fraternity, and I have no doubt this upcoming Omicron pledge class will add something of their own as well.
